2018 Hyundai Sonata

A midsize sedan needs to strike the balance of confident power and everyday economy, and the 2018 Hyundai Sonata does just that. Underneath the hood you have the option of three different engines, each with their own perks. The standard 185-horsepower 2.4L engine lays down 178 lb-ft of torque and is a solid performer. You’ll have no problem zipping around the back roads of Berks County or merging and passing on the highways. Around town, it gets up to 25 MPG, while on the highway out to Allentown you can get up to 36 MPG.

For added power, the turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine will give you more zip, and still retains quite a bit of economy. The output of 245 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque will have you getting off the line quick, and keep you cruising nicely on long-distance open road drives. At 23 MPG city and 32 MPG highway, you don’t take much of a hit on fuel efficiency for the increase in power. If you really want to avoid stopping at Wawa for anything besides coffee and a hoagie, the Sonata Eco features a 1.6L turbocharged hybrid engine. Unlike many fuel-efficient engines, it has guts – with 178 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, it doesn’t feel environmentally friendly, but it sure is. Around Reading, you’ll get 28 miles per gallon, while out on the highway you’ll get 37 MPG or better, making it the most fuel-efficient choice by far.

Some midsized sedans can suffer from a lack of space. They do a great job thinking about the front seat passengers, but rear seat passengers and cargo go by the wayside. If you regularly have to cart around a car full of passengers and their things, the 2018 Hyundai Sonata has you covered. Rear passengers are treated to 38.0 inches of head room and 35.6 inches of leg room. The seats are wide and supportive, offering plenty of room to sit in the rear and as well as up front. So not only will rear-seat passengers be comfortable on short trips to Allentown, Reading, or around Berks County, they’ll be comfy on longer trips out of the area. As far as cargo space goes, many midsized sedans tout having lots of cargo space, but have a small trunk opening that makes it hard to fit bigger objects inside despite the space, but not the Sonata. Everything else is identical. This includes power accessories, premium cloth upholstery, air conditioning, and modern metalgrain appearance accents. A six-speaker audio system is connected to the 7-inch color touchscreen display at the center of the dashboard. Every Sonata has Bluetooth hands-free phone and streaming audio, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

Hyundai Sonata SEL

The 2018 Hyundai Sonata SEL gets plenty of upgrades inside and out, and is the best value of all the trims. Proximity Key entry with push button start and a hands-free smart trunk make it easier to get in and get going, regardless of how full your hands are. Heated bodycolor side mirrors prevent ice from forming up and obstructing your view in the frigid Reading winters. Hyundai Sonata Limited

On the luxury end of the Sonata line, the Limited has standard LED taillights, while the Sport front grille and bumper from the Sport+ is an option. While the power tilt-and-slide sunroof is standard, it can be upgraded to a panoramic sunroof. Leather upholstery is standard, as is heating and ventilation for the front seats. The passenger seat is upgraded to power 6-way adjustability, while the driver seat and side mirrors have the Integrated Memory System to retain setting for the individual driver. Woodgrain appearance accents and premium door sill plates add an upscale feel. The touchscreen can be upgraded to an 8-inch version with navigation, connected to a ten-speaker Infinity audio system.

Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.0T

At the top of the line, the Limited 2.0T+ combines the sportiness of the Sport+ with the luxury of the Limited, for an all-around experience. Everything that is optional on the Limited and the Sport+ is standard – every safety feature included. Smart Cruise Control with stop/start capability is standard, as is the panoramic sunroof.
